The pattern is a pumpkin mandala, the same one the coloring page draws, with its 55 enclosed areas set against a six-colour key at the foot of the sheet.
Because the pattern is symmetrical and the numbers follow the size of each area, colouring it produces bands and rosettes of one colour rather than a scatter. Areas too small to hold a numeral are left blank and stay white, which is part of the design rather than an oversight.
Only the simplest of the four mandala densities is published this way. Measured across all of them, the detailed and intricate patterns leave more than half their areas too small to carry a number, and a sheet where most areas are unlabelled is not a colour by number.
The pattern is generated in polar coordinates rather than drawn, so the outline bends the motifs instead of cutting them, and every contour closes.
