Second grade sight words tracing worksheets, cursive

Printable cursive tracing worksheets for the 45 second grade sight words, 0.46 inch letters, 6 sheets on US Letter and A4.

All 45 words, one to a line, 8 lines to a sheet. Each line shows the word written out and then the same word to trace, as many times as fit between the margins, so a short word like "or" gets more repetitions than "because" does.

Sight words are the words a beginning reader is taught to recognise whole rather than sound out. This is the list for second grade, which is where joined writing is usually introduced.

Set at 0.46 inch letters on a three-line guide with a dashed midline, which is what makes proportion teachable: the child can see that a lower-case letter reaches the middle rule and an ascender reaches the top.

Written in a joined hand, which is where the letters connect rather than standing apart. Practising whole words matters more in cursive than in print, because the join between two letters is a stroke that only exists inside a word.

The letterforms are outlines in the file rather than a font the page asks for, so the sheet prints identically everywhere and the PDF carries no font at all.
